The Powerhouse Museum is a major branch of the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences in Sydney.
Opened in 1988, it was named after its location, the former Ultimo Power Station.
It houses a diverse collection of items that span history, science, technology, design, industry, decorative arts, music, transport and space exploration.
The museum is well-known for its distinctive building, originally a power station in the inner city suburb of Ultimo.
It hosts the annual Sydney Design Festival.
