City of Sydney, Administrative division in Sydney, Australia
The City of Sydney is the administrative district for the business quarter and inner suburbs of the metropolis. The area includes the harbor, parks, and residential neighborhoods stretching from the waterfront to the western suburbs.
The district was formed by parliamentary decision in 1842 as a city administration. This makes it the second oldest municipal authority in the country after Adelaide.
The administration works with local artists from the Aboriginal community to redesign parks and public buildings. In Redfern, you can see murals and sculptures that combine traditional patterns with modern forms.
Residents can submit requests through the website, arrange waste collection, and use libraries. Most services can be completed online without needing to enter an office.
The current mayor Clover Moore has been in office since March 2004. She also serves as a member of the state parliament, combining both roles for nearly two decades.
