One Central Park, Residential complex in Chippendale, Australia
One Central Park is a residential complex in Chippendale, Sydney, consisting of two glass towers housing 623 apartments spread across 34 floors and reaching a height of 117 meters (384 feet). The complex also features a six-level retail shopping center, gymnasium, outdoor heated pool, and concierge services for residents.
The site was formerly home to Carlton & United Breweries before developers purchased it in 2007 to construct this modern project. The complex was then built to transform the area into a contemporary residential center.
The towers showcase their commitment to nature through living walls hosting over 250 Australian plant species across more than 85,000 individual plants. Visitors can observe these vertical gardens cascading down the glass facades, giving the complex a green, living appearance.
The site is best reached on foot or by public transport, as it sits in an active urban neighborhood with good connections. Visitors should note that access to many areas may be restricted to residents, though the outdoor grounds and surrounding park are accessible to everyone.
The complex features a cantilevered heliostat with motorized mirrors that reflects natural sunlight onto the gardens below while creating LED art displays at night. This technology creates an engaging connection between daytime and nighttime design, showing how architecture can leverage artificial light for artistic effect.

Jean Nouvel is among the most recognized French architects of our time. His work spans five continents, including museums, office towers, concert halls, and residential complexes. Each project demonstrates his ability to combine technical innovation with respect for the local context, whether through material choices, light manipulation, or integration into the existing urban fabric. Among his major works, the Louvre Abu Dhabi features a perforated dome that creates a shower of light, while the Glòries Tower in Barcelona rises with its cylindrical shape and colorful facades. In Paris, the Arab World Institute has a façade equipped with mechanical diaphragms inspired by Islamic art, and the Philharmonie updates concert hall architecture with its silver volumes. Beyond Europe and the Middle East, his projects extend to Sydney with One Central Park and its hanging gardens, or Fort Worth with a museum surrounded by water basins. These buildings provide the opportunity to explore architecture that interacts with its environment and challenges conventions. Each visit allows appreciation of how architectural creativity can transform our relationship with urban and cultural spaces.
