The Domain, Public park in Sydney, Australia.
The Domain is a large open park on the eastern edge of Sydney's central business district, covering rolling lawns and tree-lined paths. It connects directly to the Royal Botanic Garden and stretches toward the waterfront near Farm Cove.
In 1788 the first governor set aside this land for farming and personal use near the new settlement at Farm Cove. Over the 19th century the area gradually opened to the public and became a central gathering space.
Locals spread picnic blankets on the lawns during weekends and gather under mature trees to escape the city heat. Open-air concerts and community gatherings take place regularly, drawing crowds who sit on the grass to watch performances.
Several entrances along Art Gallery Road, Hospital Road, and Mrs Macquarie's Road lead into the park and allow access from different directions. Most paths are paved and flat, making walking and cycling straightforward.
Stone steps known as the Fleet Steps descend to the shore of Farm Cove and offer direct access to the waterfront. The Art Gallery of New South Wales sits at the southern edge of the park and is reached by short walking paths.
