The International Convention Centre Sydney is a modern venue in Darling Harbour with three main buildings designed to host various events and gatherings. Inside, you'll find exhibition halls, theaters, formal spaces, and meeting areas tailored to different needs.
This facility replaced the original Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre that operated from 1988 onwards, closing to make way for a modern rebuild. The new structure opened in December 2016 after significant reconstruction work.
The venue sits on Tumbalong, the traditional lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, and this connection to the original inhabitants shapes how it operates today. You can feel this heritage woven through the space in various ways.
The venue is located right on the waterfront with easy access and good transport links to other parts of Sydney. Visitors should allow extra time to navigate between buildings, as events happening simultaneously may create busy areas.
The complex was designed with a strong focus on water views and public spaces that blend the interior with the outdoor waterfront, creating multiple sightlines to the harbor. Walking through the venue, you naturally move between covered and open areas that connect to the surrounding precinct.
