Sydney Cove is a small bay on the southern shore of Sydney Harbour, one of several harbours in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

It was named after the British Home Secretary, Thomas Townshend, Lord Sydney, and was the site of the initial landing of the First Fleet in Port Jackson on 26 January 1788.

The cove is home to the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, two of Australia's most famous landmarks.

Today, the exact site where the flag was planted is not apparent, as waves have washed away marks on the shoreline.

Sydney Cove is the focal point of Australia Day celebrations.
