Fairy Bower Beach

Fairy Bower Beach is a protected beach along Cabbage Tree Bay featuring clear water and a natural tidal rock pool. It sits between Shelly Beach and North Head, with residential areas and a coastal walkway connecting to nearby swimming spots.

Charles Hemington established this area in 1858 as an entertainment destination, leasing eight acres along the cliffs. Over time it became a popular beach destination that shaped Manly's coastal development.

The area displays residential architecture from the 1920s and 1930s, featuring Federation semis and Arts and Crafts bungalows that shape the streetscape. These buildings represent how Australian homes evolved during that period and remain central to the neighborhood's character.

The Marine Parade walkway connects South Steyne through the area to Shelly Beach, providing continuous coastal access with viewpoints. This path is easy to follow and allows you to move between multiple swimming spots along the shore.

This beach faces west, an uncommon orientation for the Australian east coast where most beaches face east. A 'no take' aquatic reserve protects marine life here, allowing visitors to observe coral formations and fish undisturbed.
