Railway Hotel, Gympie

Railway Hotel in Gympie is a two-story timber building positioned directly across from the railway station with high-ceiling rooms for better air circulation. The first-floor veranda provided both ventilation and a viewing area overlooking the station forecourt.

The original 1882 building was destroyed by fire in 1915 and replaced in 1916 with the current timber structure. This reconstruction was part of Gympie's modernization as the region's major railway hub.

The hotel reflects how accommodation was designed to serve train travelers during the railway era in Queensland. Its position opposite the station shows how central the railway was to the town's daily life and economy.

The hotel sits directly next to the railway station and is easily reached on foot. Access is straightforward and convenient, especially for train passengers arriving or departing from the area.

A direct footbridge connected the railway platform with the hotel entrance, allowing passengers to walk straight from the train into the building. This convenient link made the stay particularly comfortable for arriving and departing travelers.
