Blue Lake National Park, Protected area and national park on North Stradbroke Island, Australia

Blue Lake National Park, also known as Naree Budjong Djara National Park, is a protected area on North Stradbroke Island in Queensland, Australia. It surrounds a large freshwater lake accessible only on foot, through a trail of loose sand that winds through eucalypt woodlands and wallum heath.

The land around the lake has been a sacred place for the Quandamooka people for thousands of years. The Australian government later established the national park to protect the area, recognizing both its natural and cultural value.

The lake, also known as Kaboora, is a sacred site for the Quandamooka people, the traditional owners of the island. Swimming is not permitted in the water, which is considered the spiritual home of the yuri Kabool, a large carpet snake spirit believed to rest there.

The trailhead is about a 10-minute drive from the town of Dunwich, and most visitors arrive by car since no bus serves the area. The sandy path can get very warm in summer, so sturdy shoes, water, and sun protection are recommended.

Even though water flows out of the lake every day, the water level never drops, something the Quandamooka see as a sign of its spiritual power. On overcast days, visitors may hear the call of the Cooloola sedge frog, a near-threatened species that lives in this area.
