Daintree Rainforest, Tropical rainforest in Queensland, Australia
The Daintree Rainforest extends over 1,200 square kilometers along the north coast of Queensland, reaching from mountains to the coral sea.
The forest received its name in 1873 from George Dalrymple in recognition of Richard Daintree, an Australian geologist who studied the region's mineral resources.
The Kuku Yalanji people maintained deep connections with this forest for over 50,000 years, developing methods to utilize its natural resources sustainably.
Visitors can access different sections of the forest via a car ferry across the Daintree River, with the dry season from May to September offering optimal conditions.
This 180-million-year-old rainforest contains 3 percent of Australia's frog, reptile, and marsupial species, plus 90 percent of its bat and butterfly species.
