Tournament House

Tournament House, Italian Renaissance mansion in Orange Grove Boulevard, Pasadena, United States.

Tournament House is an Italian Renaissance mansion set on four acres with gardens featuring over 1,500 varieties of roses, camellias, and flowering plants. The grounds display carefully maintained flower beds and pathways designed for visitors to explore.

The mansion was originally built and owned by William Wrigley Jr., a chewing gum industry magnate, as his private residence. In 1958, his widow Ada donated the property to the City of Pasadena, transforming it into its current public purpose.

The residence serves as the headquarters for organizing the annual Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game, events deeply rooted in the city's identity. Walking around the property, you can sense how this place remains central to Pasadena's yearly celebrations.

The property is open for guided tours on Thursdays during April through August, with advance registration required to participate. Check the website ahead of time to confirm availability and reserve your spot before visiting.

The Wrigley Gardens feature a special pink rose variety developed by William Warriner that resists common plant diseases. This cultivar demonstrates how careful horticultural work over time can preserve unusual qualities in flowering plants.
