The Griffith Observatory is a facility in Los Angeles, California, sitting on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood in Los Angeles' Griffith Park.
Opened in 1935, the Griffith Observatory was constructed with funds from the will of Griffith J. Griffith, a philanthropist who donated the land to the city of Los Angeles.
The observatory has been featured in many films and TV shows, including 'Rebel Without a Cause' and 'La La Land'.
Admission to the building, grounds, and parking is always free.
It's one of the first institutions in the U.S. dedicated to public astronomy, with space and science-related displays.
