Loving County, County in western Texas, United States
Loving County is a county in western Texas in the United States and consists of desert terrain spanning a large area. The Pecos River forms the western boundary, while Mentone represents the only settlement within this remote region.
The administrative unit was created in 1887 and bears the name of cattle rancher Oliver Loving. After being dissolved in 1897, a reorganization took place in 1931 that established its current status.
The courthouse serves as a meeting point for all official matters and stands at the center of Mentone. Anyone arriving here finds a community that manages all administrative duties on its own despite its small size, relying on direct communication.
Visitors should note that there is hardly any infrastructure here and supply options are limited. Anyone traveling to this area must prepare for long distances and a dry climate.
Since the 2020 census, this administrative unit has been considered the least populated in the entire United States. Schools closed as early as 1978, and since then children travel to neighboring school districts for classes.
