Candelaria

Candelaria is a municipality in Valle del Cauca located roughly 28 kilometers from Cali at an elevation of 815 meters. The region is shaped by four rivers—the Cauca, Desbaratado, Frayle, and Párraga—that flow through predominantly flat ground and support farming activity.

This municipality was founded in 1545 as an important administrative center in Valle del Cauca Department. Over time it developed into an agricultural hub that shaped the region's economy.

The town hosts the Pedro Ramírez String Music Festival, where musicians perform traditional Colombian styles while local cooks share regional dishes. This gathering shows how residents celebrate their musical roots and bring neighbors together through art and food.

Visit during the dry season when farm roads are easier to navigate and the landscape is more accessible. Bring comfortable walking shoes since the terrain is mostly flat but can be muddy during rainy periods.
