The Pacific Region stretches along Colombia's western coast from Ecuador to Panama, encompassing 83,170 square kilometers of territory with extensive rainfall patterns.
During Spanish colonial times, this region supplied more than half of the gold exported to Spain through extensive mining operations in its rivers.
The region holds communities of African descendants and indigenous groups, including Embera, Awa, Waunana, Cuna, and Paez, maintaining their traditional practices.
The main economic activities include industrial fishing, marine organism cultivation, gold and platinum mining, and large-scale banana and plantain agriculture.
The area contains four national parks and multiple ecological reserves, making it one of the locations with the highest biological diversity worldwide.
