The rectangular park extends over 14,400 square meters, featuring native trees, fountains, benches, and pathways arranged around a central equestrian statue.
The park opened in 1892 and received its centerpiece in 1923 with an equestrian statue of Simón Bolívar created by Italian sculptor Giovanni Anderlini.
The Banda Sinfónica Universidad de Antioquia performs traditional open-air concerts during the first three Sundays of each month at 11:15 am.
The park contains public restrooms, waste containers, and numerous benches, while being surrounded by streets named after South American countries.
The white marble pedestal of Bolívar's statue, designed by Belgian architect Agustín Goovaerts, displays engraved messages on each of its four walls.
