La Ceja del Tambo, Administrative municipality in Eastern Antioquia, Colombia
La Ceja del Tambo is a municipality in the eastern Andes of Antioquia, located at about 2150 meters elevation and surrounded by rolling hills and valleys. The landscape is shaped by numerous waterfalls and fast-flowing streams that run through the terrain.
The municipality was founded in 1789 when Spanish settlers began establishing themselves in the region. The area had previously been home to the Tahamí people before colonial changes transformed it.
The town holds religious significance as a center for seminaries and spiritual communities, drawing people from across the region. This tradition shapes how locals move through the town and the character of everyday life here.
The municipality lies about 40 kilometers from Medellín and is easily reached via the highway to Bogotá. Visitors should prepare for cool mountain weather and wear proper footwear for the hilly terrain.
The territory holds one of the highest concentrations of waterfalls in Colombia, with over ten notable falls and rapids clustered in a compact area. This abundance of water features makes it a rare place to experience these natural formations close together.
