Hermosa Beach

Playa Hermosa is a long beach with soft gray sand stretching over a mile between two mountains along the Gulf of Papagayo coast. Palm and fig trees line the shore providing shade, while calm waters make it easy for swimming and water activities.

Playa Hermosa developed as a small coastal community in northern Guanacaste Province and has maintained its relaxed character over time. It is one of several beaches in Costa Rica with this name, but this one on the Pacific coast is recognized for its quiet nature and natural beauty.

The name Hermosa means "beautiful" in Spanish, reflecting the natural character of this place. Locals embrace a slow coastal rhythm with fresh food, outdoor time, and a relaxed pace that visitors often find themselves adopting during their stay.

The beach is about a half-hour drive from Liberia International Airport and is best reached by rental car for freedom to explore. The two main beach entrances are clearly marked with street-side parking, though it is wise to lock your vehicle and avoid leaving valuables inside.

There are several beaches named Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica, but this one in Guanacaste on the Pacific coast is often less well known than nearby alternatives like Playas del Coco. Yet it attracts visitors seeking a quieter beach without sacrificing the amenities and activities that larger resort towns provide.
