Las Baulas National Marine Park

The park extends across 54,000 marine acres and 936 terrestrial acres, including several beaches, mangrove swamps, and estuaries along the Guanacaste Gold Coast.

The Costa Rican government established Las Baulas National Marine Park in 1991 to safeguard critical nesting grounds for endangered leatherback sea turtles.

Local communities participate in educational programs and guide services, helping visitors understand the significance of marine conservation and turtle protection.

The park maintains regular hours from 8 am to 4 pm, with guided turtle watching tours available between October and March during the nesting season.

Las Baulas hosts over 800 nesting leatherback turtles annually, making it one of the largest nesting sites for these marine creatures in the Pacific region.
