San Juan del Cesar

San Juan del Cesar is located in La Guajira Department at about 250 meters elevation and sits among agricultural lands. The settlement rests between the municipalities of Riohacha and Distracción, shaping the rural character of the northern region.

The settlement was founded on January 1, 1701 by Captain Salvador Felix Arias Pereira and grew as an important trade route. It connected Valledupar with the Riohacha port, facilitating economic exchange for many years.
