Bubali Bird Sanctuary

Bubali Bird Sanctuary is a protected wetland area on the western shore featuring marshlands with several observation towers. More than 80 bird species inhabit these water-fed habitats, which support both resident and migratory populations.

The sanctuary originated from two artificial ponds linked to a water treatment facility that unexpectedly became crucial for migratory birds. The site eventually gained protection status as its ecological importance became clear.

The sanctuary serves as a gathering place for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts who come to observe migratory patterns of species traveling between continents. Local residents view this wetland as a vital piece of the island's natural identity.

Entry is free and the grounds are open at all times, though early morning and late evening hours provide the best viewing opportunities. The observation towers offer elevated vantage points that make spotting easier.

Black-necked stilts with distinctive red legs are commonly spotted throughout the marshlands and form a notable part of the visible wildlife here. Their striking appearance makes them easy to identify even for newcomers to birdwatching.
