Cranfills Gap is a small town in central Texas situated in Bosque County. The settlement occupies a modest area and sits at an elevation of about 295 meters (970 feet) in gently rolling terrain.
George Eaton Cranfill founded the settlement in 1851 and the community took his name. The town experienced growth over the following decades, reaching its peak population in the 1940s.
The stone church built by Norwegian settlers still stands as the visual center of the town. It represents a Lutheran heritage that shaped the community's identity for generations.
Texas State Highway 22 connects the town to nearby towns and makes access straightforward. The area is best explored by car, as the town sits in a rural agricultural region.
In 2008 the Las Vegas Convention Authority selected the small town for an advertising campaign. One hundred residents made the trip to Nevada to participate in this unusual promotion.
