Stephenville

Stephenville extends across 11.89 square miles of land at an elevation of 388 meters, featuring residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and educational facilities.

John M. Stephen donated land in 1856 to establish the settlement and lay the foundation for the town. George B. Erath later helped plan the streets and organize the county administration.

The city maintains strong connections to ranching traditions and agricultural practices, with regular rodeos, livestock shows, and farming community gatherings throughout the year.

The town sits about 68 miles southwest of Fort Worth and is accessible by several highways. Tarleton State University shapes the local scene with its campus and brings extra activity to the streets during the academic year.

In 2008, residents reported mysterious lights in the night sky that were later identified as military F-16 training flights. The reports drew nationwide media attention to the town.
