Lancaster, Residential city in Dallas County, Texas.
Lancaster is a residential city in the southern part of Dallas County, Texas. It spreads across flat terrain with streets running between single-family homes and local business zones.
The Southern Pacific Railroad built a station here in the 1870s and launched settlement in the area. Over time the community grew from this rail connection into the present city.
The city name honors a Pennsylvania town and reflects the roots of early settlers who arrived from the northeastern United States. Today family homes with large front yards and wide church buildings shape the landscape, where neighbors often stop to talk on the street.
The city lies south of Dallas and is reachable by several main roads connecting the area to the larger metro region. Visitors traveling here typically find parking directly in front of shops and public buildings.
A small airport on the city edge serves private aviation and offers two runways for sport pilots and business travelers. Visitors can occasionally watch planes take off and land from public viewing areas.
