McKinney, County seat in North Texas, United States.
McKinney is a city in Collin County in the northern part of Texas, located roughly 30 miles north of Dallas and serving as the administrative center of the county. The city sits at an elevation of about 630 feet (192 meters) and covers an area of roughly 63 square miles.
A landowner donated roughly 120 acres in 1849, enabling the founding of the settlement that counted only a few dozen residents at the time. Over the following decades, the town developed into a regional center that grew to more than 200,000 inhabitants by the early 21st century.
The McKinney Performing Arts Center operates from the 1875 Collin County courthouse, presenting theater productions, comedy shows, and musical concerts throughout the year.
A public transportation system serves elderly people, those with limited mobility, and low-income households who rely on additional support. The city also offers parks and recreation areas that are accessible for a range of outdoor activities.
A former courthouse from 1875 has been repurposed as a center for performing arts, hosting regular theater shows and music events. The northern part of the city also includes a large park spanning over 200 acres, featuring mountain bike trails and designated camping areas.
