Paris, County seat in Lamar County, Texas, United States
Paris is the county seat of Lamar County in northeastern Texas, providing residential areas and business districts for the local population. Streets lead through different neighborhoods, with the center gathering municipal offices and shops along main avenues.
The town was founded in 1845 when settlers organized the area and made it the seat of newly formed Lamar County. Throughout the 19th century, the place grew as railroad lines and farming turned it into a regional trading hub.
Named after the French capital, the city carries its title as a nod to the European roots of early settlers. Local events throughout the year showcase Texan music and regional food, with residents gathering in public squares.
Several highways pass through the area, making the drive from other parts of Texas straightforward. Parking is available in most districts, and the town center can be explored on foot.
A 65-foot (20 m) tall metal replica of the Eiffel Tower stands in town, wearing a red cowboy hat on top. This structure links the French name with Texan heritage through an everyday landmark.
