Abbeville

Abbeville is a county seat in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, located roughly 150 miles (240 kilometers) west of New Orleans. Magdalen Square at its center is ringed by mature oak trees and features a central fountain.

A French priest named Father Antoine Désiré Mégret purchased the land in 1843 and named it after his hometown in France. The settlement had previously been called La Chapelle.
