DeGray Lake, Reservoir in western Arkansas, US.
DeGray Lake is a reservoir in western Arkansas formed by a dam on the Caddo River near Arkadelphia. The water body covers a large area with moderate depth and offers multiple recreational zones for visitors.
The dam was built between 1962 and 1972 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers following authorization from the River and Harbor Act of 1950. This project fundamentally changed the landscape and how the Caddo River could be used.
The name comes from DeGraff, a French fur trader who settled in this region during the 1700s, where the Caddo people had lived before. This heritage shapes how visitors understand the area today.
Visitors can find nine campgrounds, multiple boat ramps, and swimming areas all managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Hiking trails run through the area and allow for exploring on foot.
The lake attracts migrating bald eagles during winter months, drawing many nature enthusiasts to observe them. This seasonal wildlife display adds an unexpected dimension to visits during colder periods.
