Bogalusa, Industrial city in Washington Parish, Louisiana, United States
Located on relatively flat terrain at 29 meters elevation, Bogalusa extends over 9.51 square miles of land and 0.05 square miles of water.
The Great Southern Lumber Company established Bogalusa on July 4, 1914, constructing what became the largest sawmill operation in the world at that time.
The name Bogalusa originates from the Choctaw language term 'Bogue Lusa,' translating to 'dark water' in reference to the local creek.
The city maintains an online platform where residents access municipal services, including traffic ticket payments, job listings, and administrative forms.
Originally designed by architect Rathorne DeBuys, the city layout features four distinct quadrants separated by natural boundaries and thematically named streets.
