Snead State Community College is a public educational institution on a campus featuring buildings designed in Colonial and Classical Revival styles, constructed over more than a century. The grounds contain academic facilities, laboratories, and recreational spaces supporting instruction across numerous degree and certificate programs.

Snead began in 1898 as a grade school for girls in the house of founder Anna D. Elder, and oversight passed to the Methodist Episcopal Church's state conference that year. A separate building followed by 1901, allowing a high school to be added. In 1906 local businessman John H. Snead donated land and money, and the school was renamed in his honor. A junior college was added in 1935, and the state system acquired Snead in 1967 as its 15th college.

The campus's historic core is the Snead Junior College Historic District, listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage in 1998 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The college's name honors John H. Snead, the local businessman whose 1906 gift of land and money kept the school going. Brock Colvin, a member of the Alabama House of Representatives, studied here.
