Esperance Stonehenge, Stone circle replica in Esperance, Australia
Esperance Stonehenge is a full-size granite replica featuring 137 stones arranged in concentric circles that reach heights of up to 8 meters. The stones were sourced locally and positioned to mirror the astronomical alignments of the original monument in England.
The granite stones were originally quarried in 2008 for a different project at Margaret River before being repurposed in 2011. A couple named Kim and Jillian Beale assembled them to create this monument at the current location.
The structure mirrors the astronomical alignments of the original Stonehenge, with stones positioned to capture sunlight during summer and winter solstices.
The site is accessible on Merivale Road with free parking available on-site for visitors. It is best experienced during sunny weather when the solar alignments become more visible and noticeable.
Individual stones weigh up to 50 tonnes, yet all blocks were sourced within one kilometer of the current site. This local sourcing makes the construction a remarkable engineering effort without long-distance transportation.
