Government Buildings/Courthouse, Heritage courthouse in Hokitika, New Zealand

The Government Buildings features banded brick construction, plaster details, and large windows characteristic of early 20th-century administrative structures in New Zealand.

Constructed between 1908 and 1913 under architect John Campbell, the building initially served as offices for the Lands and Survey Department along with court functions.

The structure represents the evolution of New Zealand's governmental architecture, incorporating Edwardian design principles adapted to local administrative requirements.

Located at 14 Sewell Street, the building will undergo extensive renovations worth 22 million dollars to accommodate Department of Conservation offices.

The building design was modified during construction to incorporate a statue of Richard Seddon, funded through public contributions.
