Commercial Bank, Bundaberg

The Commercial Bank is an 1891 Victorian structure standing at the corner of Bourbong Street with ornate cast iron details and broad covered verandahs. Inside, the banking chamber retains its original coffered ceiling and decorative cast iron columns.

The Commercial Banking Company of Sydney opened its Bundaberg branch in 1872 when the town was developing as a sugar region. The standing structure dates to 1891 and reflects the formalization of finance in growing regional centers.

The building demonstrates how a regional town expressed its growing prosperity through architectural grandeur during the 19th century. It served as the visible center where local business and finance came together in daily commercial life.
