Providenciales International Airport, International airport in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands.
Providenciales International Airport is an international aerodrome on the island of Providenciales and serves as the main transportation hub for the Turks and Caicos Islands. The facility features a single asphalt runway measuring 2,316 meters in length and 45 meters in width.
The terminal underwent a major expansion completed in June 2013, which increased the floor space from 51,462 to 92,321 square feet (approximately 4,782 to 8,577 square meters). The project required an investment of 10 million dollars.
The facility takes its name from the island where it sits and has carried this designation since its founding. Today it handles the majority of passenger traffic for the archipelago, connecting the region to international destinations.
Travelers should arrive at the terminal at least two hours before international flights, while 45 minutes suffices for domestic connections. Weekends and high-traffic periods call for extra time to clear security.
The facility's fire brigade operates three specialized foam tenders, each carrying 7,585 gallons (28,710 liters) of water, 271 gallons (1,025 liters) of foam, and 1,488 pounds (675 kilograms) of dry chemical agents. This equipment meets international standards for airports of this size.
