Sarasota–Bradenton International Airport, International airport in Sarasota, Florida, United States.
Sarasota–Bradenton International Airport is an international airport in Sarasota, Florida, and features a modern terminal with multiple gates plus two asphalt runways. The facility covers a large area north of the city and connects the Gulf Coast with numerous destinations across the United States and some international routes.
The facility opened in 1942 as a military base and carried the name Sarasota Army Airfield, where pilots trained for deployment in World War II. After the war ended, the site transformed into a civilian airport and grew over time into an important transportation hub for the Gulf Coast.
A memorial display honors tennis coach Nick Bollettieri and shows his importance for local sports history. This recognition reflects the close connection between the community and its distinguished figures.
The terminal offers direct access to parking and departure areas, with ticket counters and baggage claim near the main hall. Arrivals and departures are visible on digital boards throughout the building.
On September 11, 2001, Air Force One departed from here after President George W. Bush learned about the terrorist attacks. This event made the airport an unexpected part of American history and drew visitors over the years who connect the site with that day.
