The Palace of Versailles is a royal château in Versailles, France, built by Louis XIV and the French government in the late 17th century.
Versailles was the seat of political power in the Kingdom of France from 1682, when Louis XIV moved the royal court from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in October 1789.
The palace is now an historical monument and UNESCO World Heritage site, notable especially for the ceremonial Hall of Mirrors, the jewel-like Royal Opera, and the royal apartments.
It's open to the public and can be visited by purchasing tickets online or at the entrance.
The Palace of Versailles has more than 700 rooms, 2,000 windows, 1,250 fireplaces, and 67 staircases.
