Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park

The park encompasses six earthen temple mounds within a 19-hectare complex, featuring two hiking trails through natural Florida landscapes and historical structures.

Native Americans constructed these ceremonial mounds between 1050 and 1500 AD, establishing the area as a regional capital of the Fort Walton Culture.

Excavations revealed copper plates, shell decorations, pearl beads, and ceramic pipes that demonstrate connections with other Mississippian settlements across southeastern North America.

Visitors can access the park daily from 8 AM to sunset, with entrance fees of $3 per vehicle and guided tours available upon request.

The site contains Trillium reliquum, an endangered plant species that researchers previously documented only in neighboring states.
