Houston County extends across 582 square miles of land in the Wiregrass region, featuring communities connected by highways US 84, US 231, and US 431.

Established in 1903 from parts of Dale, Geneva, and Henry counties, Houston County received its name from George Smith Houston, the 24th Governor of Alabama.

The county population of 107,202 residents includes diverse communities spread across multiple municipalities, with Dothan serving as the primary administrative center.

The Administration Department operates from 462 North Oates Street in Dothan, providing services Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The Houston County Farm Center functions as a central agricultural resource, supporting farming activities and community events throughout the region.
