General Coffee State Park, State park in Nicholls, Georgia, US.
General Coffee State Park is a 1511-acre protected area in south Georgia with a Heritage section containing traditional farm buildings like log cabins, a corn crib, a tobacco barn, and a cane mill. The grounds also feature 13.4 miles of riding trails, camping areas, and historic cottages for visitors.
The land was donated in 1970 by Coffee County residents to create this state park and honor John Coffee, a US Congressman and military figure from Georgia. This gift aimed to protect the area and preserve the region's heritage for future generations.
The Heritage Farm area shows how people in this region once lived and worked, with preserved buildings and tools that illustrate daily farm labor. Visitors see the important role agriculture played in community life and how closely people were connected to the land.
The park offers 50 camping sites with water and electricity, plus several cottages for overnight stays, some over 100 years old. Visitors should bring sturdy shoes since trails lead through woodlands and swamp areas.
A boardwalk crosses a cypress swamp along Seventeen-Mile River, where rare carnivorous pitcher plants grow and gopher tortoises dig their burrows. This wetland setting is unusual for Georgia and offers a glimpse into a completely different ecosystem.
