Cordele

Cordele is the county seat of Crisp County in central Georgia, positioned at 96 meters above sea level. Interstate 75 and multiple railway lines pass through the city, making it a significant transportation hub in the region.

The city was founded in 1888 and named after Cordelia Hawkins, daughter of Samuel Hawkins who led the Savannah, Americus and Montgomery Railway. This railroad connection shaped its early development as a commercial center.

The annual Watermelon Festival in June brings residents and visitors together to celebrate the region's agricultural traditions. These events show how deeply farming and local produce remain woven into community identity today.

Georgia Veterans State Park offers camping facilities, a resort hotel, and military history exhibits along Route 280 for outdoor recreation. The park is conveniently located near the city for day trips or extended stays.
