Peachtree City, Planned community in Fayette County, Georgia, US
Peachtree City is a planned city in Fayette County, Georgia, spreading across roughly 67 square kilometers (26 square miles) and connected by more than 160 kilometers of multi-use paths. The neighborhoods cluster around three lakes and are threaded with green spaces that separate pedestrians, cyclists and golf cart drivers.
The founding took place in 1957 after damming Flat Creek, which forms the center of today's settlement area. Official incorporation happened in 1962 under Joel Cowan, who introduced the concept of pedestrian and golf cart-friendly paths.
Golf carts roll through the entire city and count as a common mode of transport for daily life among residents and visitors. The paths connect shops, schools and parks directly with neighborhoods, so many families own several of these electric vehicles.
The numerous paths allow walks and bike rides through the city without crossing public roads, and suit families with children. It is best to visit the Frederick Brown Amphitheater or the parks around the lakes on weekends, which invite strolls and picnics.
The Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia hangar offers flights in vintage military aircraft from World War II and later decades. The volunteers maintain the machines and explain details of aviation history during ground visits.
