Browns Bridge, Cantilever bridge in Hall County, Georgia, US
Browns Bridge was a cantilever bridge that crossed Lake Sidney Lanier in Georgia, connecting Hall and Forsyth counties. The structure carried two lanes of traffic across the water until it was replaced in 2021.
The bridge was built in 1955, shortly after Lake Lanier was created by Buford Dam construction. This project was part of broader infrastructure developments in the region during the mid-20th century.
The structure inherited its name from the Brown family, who held substantial influence in the development of Gainesville and the surrounding region.
The bridge was easily accessible from nearby roads and offered clear views across the lake from both sides. Visitors could observe the structure from various vantage points along the shoreline to appreciate its design.
The bridge featured a Modified Warren design with rivet connections, incorporating 20 panels with fixed spans and metal stringer approach sections.
