Mistletoe State Park, State park in Appling, US.
Mistletoe State Park is a state park on the shores of Clarks Hill Lake in Columbia County, Georgia, surrounded by hardwood forest and crossed by several hiking trails. It has camping areas, boat ramps, and direct water access for swimming and fishing.
Clarks Hill Lake was created in the mid-20th century when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built a dam for power generation and flood control. Once the reservoir filled, the surrounding land was set aside for public recreation, giving rise to this park.
Fishing is a big part of daily life at this park, and many visitors come specifically for the largemouth bass that populate the lake. Locals treat the park as a regular weekend spot, often arriving with boats and camping gear.
Visitors with a boat can use the ramps inside the park to reach the lake without driving elsewhere. Those planning to hike should wear sturdy shoes, as the trails wind through forest and uneven ground.
The park takes its name from the mistletoe plants that grow in the oak trees of the area, most visible in winter when the branches are bare. Looking up into the trees on a winter visit, you can spot the green clumps clinging to the limbs overhead.
