Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area, State recreation area in western Piedmont, South Carolina.
Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area is a 914-acre park surrounding a large reservoir in western Piedmont. The water is accessible from two boat ramps and offers fishing and boating on approximately 11,400 acres of surface area.
The area was developed in the 1930s as part of a national program to create jobs and improve rural lands. Workers built many of the structures and pathways that visitors use today.
The Drummond Center showcases the history of local communities and rural development through interactive exhibits that invite visitors to explore. The displays reveal how people shaped their work and daily life at this location over generations.
The area has 125 campsites with electrical service, multiple picnic areas right by the water, and a fishing pier designed for people with disabilities. Visitors should seek shelter during storms and follow park guidelines.
An unfinished stone wall at the entrance marks where workers left to serve in the military. The structure tells a story of changed plans during that era.
