Gravel Hill Plantation, Historic plantation house in Allendale County, United States.
Gravel Hill Plantation is a two-story white frame building with Greek Revival architecture and a raised basement. An ornamental porch with five columns sits on the east facade, while the main entrance features a portico with four square wooden columns, with two small wings extending from each side of the main structure.
Benjamin Willingham constructed this plantation house between 1857 and 1859, establishing a large agricultural property on the land. The building has survived and was eventually listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Bryan Brothers ran a school on these grounds that provided education and served as a community voting place. People used this space for both purposes at the same time.
The property sits on Augusta Stage Coach Road in Garnett, South Carolina, with grounds covering several acres. Visitors should prepare for unpaved areas and possibly wet conditions if exploring the full extent of the land.
The property originally encompassed nearly 1000 acres of farmland but shrank considerably over time. Visitors can witness how a once-large agricultural estate became a much smaller preserved landmark.
