General Douglas MacArthur Tunnel, Tunnel in California
The MacArthur Tunnel is a highway tunnel in San Francisco, part of Route 1.
Constructed from 1937 to 1940, it was originally named the Army Street Tunnel.
Its current name honors General Douglas MacArthur, a prominent military leader.
It underwent seismic retrofits after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
Features distinct art deco portals and remains an engineering landmark.
