Sail and Life Training Society, Christian sailing organization in Victoria, Canada.
The Sail and Life Training Society is a Christian sailing organization in Victoria, British Columbia, that operates two tall ships for maritime education. The vessels Pacific Swift and Pacific Grace provide training to young people aged 13 to 24 through sailing expeditions.
The organization was founded in 1974 and built its first vessel as a working exhibit for Expo 86. The second ship, Pacific Grace, entered service in 1999.
The organization blends maritime training with personal growth through hands-on activities aboard ship that foster cooperation and mutual trust among young participants. This experience shapes participants through direct learning in a working maritime environment.
The organization runs sailing trips primarily in spring and fall, lasting four to five days and departing from Ship Point Wharf in Victoria. Routes travel through the Gulf Islands, allowing participants to learn under real sailing conditions.
During training, participants climb the rigging to heights of about 115 feet (35 meters) on moving ships, building responsibility and self-confidence. This physical challenge forms an integral part of the organization's holistic educational approach.
