Ferndale, Residential city in Whatcom County, United States
Ferndale extends along the banks of the Nooksack River, encompassing 7.14 square miles of land and water in western Washington state.
The settlement changed its name from Jam to Ferndale in 1872, inspired by the abundant ferns surrounding the first local schoolhouse.
The land holds connections to Coast Salish Peoples, with the Lummi Nation maintaining their settlement on the prairie before European arrival.
Interstate 5 provides direct access to the city, while the BNSF Railway offers freight and passenger transportation services throughout the region.
Pioneer Park maintains a collection of original log cabins from the Northwest settlement period, preserving structures from the earliest European inhabitants.
