Bloedel Conservatory, Botanical garden in Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver, Canada
The Bloedel Conservatory is a botanical garden housed under a large glass dome in Queen Elizabeth Park. Inside, more than 500 plant species and around 100 free-flying birds live across three separate climate zones.
The conservatory opened in 1969 after Prentice Bloedel made a significant donation to the city. This gift became a turning point that allowed the creation of this botanical institution.
The facility functions as an educational center where visitors learn about tropical ecosystems, plant conservation, and the importance of environmental protection.
The conservatory operates year-round with extended hours from May through August and shorter hours from October through April. Plan to spend time walking through all three climate zones and watching the birds move freely.
The aluminum dome framework was manufactured in Ottawa and traveled over 3,000 km across Canada before assembly. The dome's construction was completed remarkably quickly once the framework arrived on site.
