Ruskin Dam, Hydroelectric power station and gravity dam in British Columbia, Canada
Ruskin Dam is a concrete structure that spans 125 meters across the Stave River and generates electricity for the region. The facility uses three Francis turbines with a combined output of 105 megawatts to produce power.
The British Columbia Electric Railway began construction in 1929 and the facility started operations in 1930 with two generators. A third unit was added in 1950 to increase power output.
The formation of Hayward Lake resulted from the dam construction, named to honor the first production superintendent of the Stave Falls Dam.
The location offers good views of the dam and the reservoir behind it. Visitors can explore the surrounding area and appreciate the scale of the structure from different vantage points.
The dam and its surroundings have appeared in television productions, including The X-Files series, where it was featured as a filming location.
